The purpose of the Faculty Development Center (FDC) is to promote and sustain excellence in faculty instruction and research through faculty development and retention, and out reach.
In support of the mission of the College- to develop men with discipline minds who will lead lives of leadership and service- the FDC seeks to facilitate the continued professional development of Morehouse faculty as teachers and scholars who motivate students to participate actively in their own education and guide them their way to becoming critical thinkers and life-long learners.
The FDC introduces new faculty to the culture of excellence in teaching and scholarship at Morehouse College, provide guided resources to assist faculty in the preparation for promotion and tenure, supports the continued professional development of Morehouse senior faculty.
The FDC will make avaiable to the global higher education community the College's expertise in the areas of effective pedgogy, learning outcomes, and student assessment, with special emphasis on the teaching and learning of African-American males.
The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Retreat (SoTL) is a three-day seminar which provides faculty with an immersion research experience to foster the development of scholarly instructional strategies and puclishable pedagogical research. The retreat is held in May and awards a SoTL research stipend for the development and submission of scholarly work.
Mobile technologies allow educators to use devices that engage and increase active participation. Students are increasingly seeking ways to use mobile devices such as smart phones, iPads and other tablet devices in our classrooms.
